Witty Books

Turin, Italy · since 2012

Witty Books was founded in Turin in 2012 by Tommaso Parrillo, originally under the name Witty Kiwi, as an independent house for contemporary photography and visual arts. It treats the book as a narrative device and a critical space, where sequencing, rhythm and the physical object count as much as the images, and it says plainly, “We strongly believe in the dialogue between the different arts.” Publishing is only half of the practice: the house also teaches, with lectures, workshops, masterclasses and an online course under the heading “education of the images”, and it runs awards for unpublished photobook dummies, one of which offers a publishing contract with a minimum print run of 400 copies.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
