FANTOM

Milan, Italy · since 2009

Fantom is a non-profit art organisation based in Milan that explores the new trajectories of photography, sound and the visual arts, started in 2009 on the initiative of Selva Barni. It first produced a photographic quarterly and a series of photobooks, stopped the magazine in 2012 and became a collective that produces exhibitions, performances and publishing projects. Its FantomBooks imprint made its debut in 2010 with a book by Takashi Homma, and Charlotte Dumas's Al lavoro! followed in 2011 as its third release. Some of its books were made with other publishers, among them Humboldt Books.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
