Skira
Skira is an art publisher, and photography is one part of a list that began in 1928 in a small room of a Lausanne hotel, when Albert Skira published Ovid's Metamorphoses illustrated by Picasso and Mallarmé's Poésies with etchings by Matisse. It later brought out the review Minotaure and, with the Grands Livres of the 1950s and 1960s, found its international audience. Since 1995 the house has been based in Milan, and its books come in several languages, among them Arabic, French, English, Italian and German. The photobooks in the archive therefore come from a house that treats photography as one of the arts, next to painting, architecture, design and fashion, and they are mostly hardcover.
