Super Labo

Tokyo, Japan · since 2009

Established in 2009 by Yasunori Hoki, Super Labo is a Tokyo publishing house specialised in photography, and it works as publisher and shop at once: Super Labo Store Tokyo, a photography-themed concept store opened in March 2019, sells prints and edition works and hosts exhibitions. Each title is produced in Japan in close collaboration with the artist, and the site separates regular titles from special editions, photo-cards and originals, so a book often has an object or a print alongside it. The list is international, with Japanese authors beside Western photographers from fashion, street and skateboard culture, and the house takes its books to art book fairs around the world.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
