750 Super Sport by Craig McDean presents a remarkable visual study of two of the most significant surviving examples of the original Ducati 750 Super Sport motorcycles—machines born from the same factory production run yet destined for entirely different lives. One motorcycle was ridden more than 100,000 miles by Keith Hale—student, teacher, and lifelong enthusiast. The other remained untouched, never started and carefully preserved by Laurence L. Forstall—collector, adventurer, and museum donor. One became a personal legend. The other became a cultural artifact, famously featured in the Guggenheim Museum’s landmark exhibition The Art of the Motorcycle. Though nearly identical in origin, each motorcycle bears the imprint of a vastly different journey. Best known for his influential work in fashion photography, McDean approaches the motorcycles with an analytical and reverential attention to detail. The resulting images move beyond documentation to become studies in design itself—where form and function exist in perfect harmony. Comprising 70 pages under the art direction of Alex Wiederin, McDean’s photographs and Peter Boggia’s accompanying text capture the machines in extraordinary detail, revealing subtle traces of history while highlighting the timeless beauty of Ducati’s engineering. Originally introduced in the early 1970s, the 750 SS transformed the motorcycle world, earning international acclaim following Ducati’s celebrated first- and second-place victory at Imola, Italy, in 1972.
