Fotohof

Salzburg, Austria · since 1981

Fotohof is an association before it is a publisher. Founded in Salzburg in 1981 to support authorial photography, it still runs a gallery, one of Austria's largest specialist photography libraries and an archive, and the books grow out of that work: the programme is set together by a team in regular meetings, not by a single editor. The monograph is the central form, with catalogues and theory alongside it, and the historical strand comes from an exclusive cooperation with the Bonartes photo institute and from the FOTOHOF>ARCHIV series. Many titles are paired with signed, numbered editions of original prints. It also publishes for museums in Salzburg and Vienna, so institutional catalogues sit next to artists' books.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
