Jesus Blue
Jesus Blue is the imprint the photographer Nick Waplington launched in 2019 with his friend, the art director Jonny Lu, to publish his own books on his own schedule rather than wait out the long lead times of larger publishers. It is a hands-on operation that makes books as objects: hardcovers with dust jackets, hard-case books with foil stamping, a zine set in a screen-printed cardboard box, prints on Fuji Crystal Archive paper, hand prints signed by the artist and even a cover painted by hand to order, in numbered editions that sell out. Lu's studio designs many of the titles, and the list has opened beyond Waplington to other photographers.
