A maker, designer and acclaimed architect, Sugimoto has from a young age looked into several artistic disciplines, among them theatre and cinema.

In this collection he concentrates on the theatres of the large cities and the provincial towns of northern and central Italy where, between 2013 and 2016, he made a new series, choosing some of the most inventive and beguiling architecture built for performance — buildings conceived by architects of the stature of Andrea Palladio, Giovan Battista Aleotti, Vincenzo Scamozzi, Francesco Tadolini and Leopoldo Pollack.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
