Collaboration with Jörg Michel, POLA Berlin – Studio for Landscape Architecture

"Portraits" is a collaborative project of Claudio Pogo, Magdalena Wysocka and Jörg Michel of POLA Berlin, Studio for Landscape Architecture, a line of books that translate the feel of a landscape into book form. Portrait #1 is the first attempt, a study of a river bank. The book consists of 20 rocks photographed on site by Wysocka and Pogo, offset-printed at a precise scale of 1:1, folded into signatures and sewn into book blocks in an abstract, minimal layout. It invites the viewer to study textures and surfaces almost as if through a magnifying glass. Each copy comes with a double-sided poster of two stones.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
