With this 200-page volume the German self-taught photographer Alexander Binder continues his research into the occult and symbolism. Throughout the book the dark swallows and the light burns; each picture is part of one large incoherent, illogical drawing, as if the whole body of work re-emerged from a past, with no historical or geographical data to follow. Binder builds something ancestral and esoteric, partly realistic but never real, and the big picture is deeply anti-narrative.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
