Early photographs by Fabio Sgroi, who in 1984 began photographing his friends, young people close to punk music and the underground, in Palermo. The book looks at the city of the mid-1980s through that scene and opens with a text by Francesco De Grandi recalling LA CUBA, a punk, anarchist group in a cyberpunk outpost of an interzone Palermo swept by the wind of heroin, with draughtsmen of other worlds and plans for independent fanzines, sitting on an unfinished bridge in via Belgio.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
