Previously unpublished black-and-white photographs taken by Fabrizio Carbone during his stay in New York, capturing the vitality of the American way of life from an intimate and political perspective: the city and its inhabitants, whose symbols and languages would soon become universal icons. Carbone, then a correspondent for an Italian newspaper, spent a year in the city and resigned when the paper sided with the Vietnam war. The project was conceived by Michele Manfellotto.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
