Essay by Lina Protopapa

A series of snapshots of the everyday lives of the young inhabitants of Nicosia, taken by themselves. Participants from the Greek Cypriot and the Turkish Cypriot communities were asked to give an immediate, spontaneous idea of their identities, with no filters and no mediation. The result is a rich, crazy mosaic of houses inside and out, neighbourhoods, streets, shops, unmade beds, plants, animals, excursions, portraits and selfies. Part of the project Uncovering Identities, curated by Lina Protopapa, with an exhibition and a workshop by Achille Filipponi, funded by Norway Grants.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
