Critical text by Paola Paleari

Made in agreement with an author who thinks photography is a mutable and manifold matter, Atem is a book free of the rules that usually govern the relation between photographs and pages. Its content comes from a purely random process with no selection: the photographs follow the numeric order of the author's archive of thousands of images, appear in their original format whatever the page size, and the pages were later shuffled at random, ignoring bleed and overlaps. The book becomes a container that gives the images the freedom to create new ones. It includes a critical text by Paola Paleari.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
