Essay by Roberto D'Agostino

The first book by the Roman photographer Dino Ignani, a selection from his archive of the young people who lit up Rome's night life in the early 1980s, especially around the so-called dark universe. The dark community gathered the musical tendencies and the fashion of those years, from post-punk to new romantic to gothic. The pictures were shot in video bars, discos and other venues, among them Olimpo, Supersonic, Angelo Azzurro, Piper and Cinema Espero, where Ignani invited the regulars to pose. With an essay by Roberto D'Agostino.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
