Portraits made on the streets of Okinawa between 2010 and 2012. In a postscript Ishikawa thanks everyone who stood before him and taught the immature photographer about the splendour of living, the seemingly momentary sparkle of evanescence and the power of life to disentangle everything: one person is returning a rented movie, one accompanies their parents on an errand, one walks the dog, one was drenched by rain, one is just sitting there resting; people enjoying something with friends, drunk, going wild, worrying, rejoicing, or distraught with loneliness. One talks about someone they like, one complains about their parents, one is canvassing for a religion, one speaks about the war, one tells a story that seems like a dream. Everything is fantastic, everything is ordinary, everyone is inside each person and living each life heartily. When he stands there, all he can do is press the shutter, trembling, and something beyond his own will is captured in a photograph that could only have happened with that person, in that place, at that time. Photographs always start talking to him in these situations, he writes: isn't this what you are looking for?
