The pictures of Noémie Goudal are a meeting of reality and fiction. In the series Observatoires, made between 2013 and 2014, she sets out a suite of science-fiction architectures in sober settings. They call to mind the work of Bernd and Hilla Becher, but where the German artists bear systematic witness to industrial landscapes, Goudal's pieces speak of utopian architectures with no notion of a specific period or place: built as large paper constructions and set into real sites, then photographed straight on, they hold the eye between the solidity of the structure and the fragility of the prop.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
