Claudio Pogo's Guide answers William Eggleston's Guide, published by the Museum of Modern Art, New York in 1976 as its first book of colour photography. Pogo recreates the original book using today's artificial intelligence: every picture was found through the "visually similar content" algorithm of reverse image search engines. A reflection on the term "vernacular photography" 45 years after the original, it is bound in a textured hardcover inset with a photograph of a tricycle and stamped with the same yearbook-style gold lettering. The guide contains 48 images selected by different search engines and edited by Pogo.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
