The volume accompanies the exhibition (Museo di Roma, 1 July – 24 October 2021) devoted to Porry Pastorel, the first Italian photojournalist. It is the first monograph on him, more than fifty years after his death, despite his being considered the undisputed father of Italian photojournalism. At only twenty Adolfo Porry Pastorel (1888-1959) was the most sought-after press photographer in the capital. His flair and insatiable curiosity led him, well ahead of his time, to invent the scoop, to photograph politics from unexpected angles and to train a generation of reporters.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
