Liu Silin creates through herself a character, Celine Liu, who traverses history, culture, politics and identity — yet she says that Celine Liu is in fact nobody: Celine Liu can be anyone, and anyone can be Celine Liu. In an era of image overload she employs herself as a medium to push the boundaries between the real and the fictional, the mundane and the ritual, the private and the public, the individual and the universal, letting the character circulate and ferment in the virtual world, and be consumed. She falsifies history by seamlessly inserting herself into it.
