Enghelab Street, named in honour of the Islamic revolution of 1979, runs through the centre of Tehran and is one of the main arteries of the city's cultural life, with its many bookshops. The publication presents a range of photographic and propaganda books gathered by the Iranian artist Hannah Darabi. Working from volumes published between 1979 and 1983 — the short period of freedom of expression at the end of the regime and the beginning of the Islamic republic — it shows how a country's images were printed, circulated and controlled.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
