Renverser ses yeux. Autour de l'arte povera 1960-1975 casts a new look at the arte povera movement by setting it in the wider context of the Italian scene of the 1960s and 1970s. The fruit of long research in artists' studios and in private and public collections, it shows the extraordinary richness of a period in which Italian artists were among the most important interpreters of the transformation of visual languages. Through the production of books, posters, projections and prints on canvas, the artists of those years took hold of the narrative power of the photographic and filmic picture in order to explore new possibilities. This fresh look at a major artistic undertaking of the twentieth-century avant-gardes also offers a visual immersion in the political and cultural context of the time, with portfolios referring to cinema, theatre, political events and happenings.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
