'I began my nude sessions with prostitutes, but not in the melodramatic style of Mary Ellen Mark and her prostitutes of Falkland Road in Bombay; nor did I want to do documentary photography... I liked the results so much that I kept looking for places with as much variation as possible. The first session was in August 1983 and the last in July 2000. I tried to do others in 2013, but the gangs already controlled certain neighbourhoods and the atmosphere became very dangerous. I gave up.'
