“Demons from the Old Black, serpents and silence” was born out of the urge to combine images that don’t tell a story nor analyze it, focusing instead on a feeling and longing to establish a connection with the observer. Author Luca Baioni reflects on life and death in a time where the use of images, both for commercial and documentary purposes, are stuck, more than ever, in an everlasting loop of delivery and reception. Feelings of silence and abandonment are shown in a deconstructed sequence that aims to prove a point about today’s use of images: feelings are no longer conveyed, there is only time and room to merely show – and detect – the obvious. Photographers, like artists, need to unveil themselves first in order to expose the world’s silence. Those who just want to report things won’t end up moving them. Only those who destroy them can achieve new shapes, new ideas and new inputs. DFTOBSS wants to hypnotize the viewer’s attention to raise doubts, instead of nourishing beliefs.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
