Text by Anne Biroleau

In 2006, at the Rencontres d'Arles, Raymond Depardon presented a new generation of reporters. Fourteen of them chose to come together around one project: France 14. They are Marion Poussier, Malik Nejmi, Gilles Leimdorfer, Stéphane Lagoutte, Olivier Jobard, Laurent Guéneau, Franck Gérard, Raphaël Dallaporta, Olivier Culmann, Gilles Coulon, Cyrus Cornut, Julien Chapsal, Philippe Chancel and Jean-Christophe Béchet. The volume presents the work shown from 30 September to 21 November 2010 at the Bibliothèque nationale de France.

“The whole questions the notion of French territory, and thereby that of belonging to a place and an identity; it gives an overview of its inevitable and irreversible evolution, of its openness to otherness. The work they present together responds to a historical urgency, to a question running across the whole of our society.” — Anne Biroleau

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
