A monograph on work that stands at the crossroads of drawing, the still image and installation. From 2000 Bertrand Flachot took advantage of digital tools: drawing on a graphics tablet gave him an unsuspected freedom of movement, and that computer-assisted method, joined to a digital practice of the image, let him develop work that combines all three.

He produces an image in which the line matters and is gradually transformed into a moving, expansive weave. This endless gesture is the expression of a form of drawing whose only motive is its own wandering, beyond every possible support, in a continuum like a whisper that does not end, similar to life. Today that graphic wandering comes closer and closer to a form of writing, reconnecting with the artist's desire to write, and leans on literary references such as Robert Walser's Territory of the Pencil.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
