Looking Good is a collection of Charles Traub's photographs on the nature of wandering and the gaze itself, a central theme of his research. The volume brings together images ranging from the mid-1970s to the present day. As George Sand wrote, "the secret of studying life is learning to use your eyes," and Traub has continued this study through over fifty years of photography. People observe each other, observe Traub, stare into space, wander around looking for something that catches their attention. These are mostly spontaneous photographs that capture the nuance of the fact that we are always in the act of observing. July 2026.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
