Sage Sohier grew up with four dogs, and currently lives with three. Animals have always been important in her life; so, when she started photographing people in the late 1970s, she often included their companion animals. “There is more spontaneity, less self-consciousness, and more chaos when humans and other animals coexist. Love is unconditional, grief is uncomplicated though deeply felt, and life is richer, more vivid, more comical.” Press: FT , Creative Boom , The New Yorker Event:  Join us at Le Bal on 7th November from 7:30pm where Sage Sohier will be in conversation with Mark Steinmetz, Tod Papageorge and Lou Stoppard.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
