“In 2004 I made the book Trying to Dance, and since then it has lived a life of its own, just as books should. For me it is more than a book: the images on which it was based constitute a universe of their own, and working then had a liberating effect on me as a visual artist.

I lived mostly in New York, but also in Värmland, and travelled a lot in the United States and Europe. Mentally I was in between worlds, between realities, between the urban and the rural. This was also a period when I questioned and doubted the importance and the relevance of the medium for me.”

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
