After thirty-four years, the last episode of the TV series “Lindenstraße” was aired on 29 March 2020. It is by far the longest-running family series on German television. No other series has captured everyday life in Germany as scrupulously, thoroughly, and bluntly as this iconic program. The lavishly designed and richly illustrated volume “Lindenstraße – Die Chronik” by Hana and Hans W. Geißendörfer and photographer Steven Mahner presents a record of this era in the history of national television. There are plenty of images to enjoy in the seven chapters of the book. They take you on a journey behind the scenes of the “Lindenstraße” set – covering a period of more than three decades. Exclusive archival material gives insights into the work of the producers, actors, and the team. About 400 pictures displayed on 720 pages show portraits of actors, historical shots of the film set, and photos of the shooting of the series. In addition, the publication provides entertaining anecdotes and interesting facts about individual episodes, while also pointing out references to real events in German history. The first edition of the book was released in 2015. This new substantially revised and extended edition contains texts by Natalie Philippi who worked for the series for twenty years. Eighty new photos depict the great moments of the final years of the “Lindenstraße,” capture the emotional last days of filming in the Bocklemünd district of Cologne, and show how the set was dismantled.

ABOUT

The project

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.

Images and rights

Covers, interior pages and descriptions are shown to introduce and identify the books, always crediting publisher, author and photographer and linking back to the publisher. We ask publishers for their permission, and we remove anything on request within 7 days. If you are a publisher, an author or a photographer and you want something changed or removed, write to info@spineindex.it.
