just a man in love, a much-talked-about work that sold out at book events at home and abroad, here appears in a new edition. Its subjects are ordinary couples, and Shiohara captures them in the act of sex in a way only photography allows. Focusing in particular on the man's side, he records the changing expressions of a person absorbed in one-to-one communication with the one before them: the gaze that desperately devours the body is directed at a loved one, and a pure story runs beneath. Evoking the human figure as it ought to be, the book reaches toward something that can be called poetic.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
