Un reino maravilloso (A Wonderful Kingdom) is the result of three years' work – 2022, 2023 and 2024 – in the city and province of Cuenca, an attempt to reconstruct an imaginary territory starting from the province's wealth and diversity. In short, it is a belated and sentimental photographic journey to one of the wonderful kingdoms that are always nearby, as Portuguese writer Miguel Torga one day taught us in reference to his native Tras-os-Montes (with which Cuenca has much in common):

'I'm going to tell you about a Wonderful Kingdom. Even though many deny the fact, there always were and always will be wonderful kingdoms in this world. What we need, in order to see them, is that our eyes maintain their original purity before reality and that our hearts don't doubt.'

This book counted with the support and participation of Fundación Antonio Pérez. Diputación de Cuenca.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
