Since July 2017, I have had the opportunity to travel through the communes of the Pays du Clermontois, in a particular drift during which I chose to return to places without history and everyday moments at different times of the year. I wanted to confront the hazards of walking, the desire to photograph intermediate spaces which, in a certain way, intrigued me.

I tried to reread this territory, to short-circuit it to create a pastoral story loaded with “revelations”, where behind the surface of each image, another was hidden. Here, the images question the past at the same time as they reflect on the future.

At no time is it a question of passing a moral judgment on the territories crossed. The point is more to get rid of a whole series of codes, peremptory ideas and clichés that we associate with knowing a place, in order at the end of our journey, to try to discover the meaning of this place.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
