Essay by Timothy Morton
A new collection of photographs from Ed Panar's observational wanderings, paired with an original essay on "being seen" by the philosopher Timothy Morton. Extending the project begun in 2011, this sequel depicts brief shared encounters with non-human species — mammal, reptile, bird, insect — as they seem to behold the human photographer. Why do we distinguish between "us" and "them", what does it mean to make eye contact with another species, and what does the camera add? "Why do we assume that it's only us who does the looking?"
