Peter Strehle tells fictional stories by assembling discarded Polaroids from all over the United States. The Stuttgart-based media artist buys the pictures at house clearances, flea markets and on eBay, collecting and hoarding these lost private memories in order to find corresponding motifs, odd moments and fascinating characters that he sets in context to make up new stories. By fabricating story lines he plays with visual fragments of memory; the stories that develop in the viewer's mind are completely based on individual ideas and imagination, working both as reflections and as projections of how we handle the past.
