The Private Collection is the whim of a photographer devoted to female beauty: a song to women framed in an era that Oriol Maspons lived and savoured to the full, the years of the Gauche Divine, the modern and elitist Barcelona of the sixties and seventies, the hippie landing and the first hallucinogenic unveilings, the golden age of the posh aristocracy that the author has immortalised in a singular private collection starring the 'pretty girls' who spurred him to pick up a camera for the first time. As Maspons says, he became a photographer in order to flirt. He did so in the years when a Photographer, with a capital letter, rubbed shoulders with the beautiful people: artists, writers, editors, singers and bullfighters formed a circle of acquaintances whose exclusive meetings took place in Barcelona, Ibiza or Cadaqués, with figures such as Salvador Dalí, Luis Miguel Dominguín or Camilo José Cela in the company of the most beautiful and daring women of the moment. Maspons gathered in this book more than 70 images of 'his girls'.

ABOUT

The project

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.

Images and rights

Covers, interior pages and descriptions are shown to introduce and identify the books, always crediting publisher, author and photographer and linking back to the publisher. We ask publishers for their permission, and we remove anything on request within 7 days. If you are a publisher, an author or a photographer and you want something changed or removed, write to info@spineindex.it.
