The photographs gathered in Midday Moon move between observation and projection, presenting a world that appears familiar while subtly slipping into estrangement. Rather than simply documenting reality, the images filter everyday scenes through a deeply personal visual language, where perception becomes unstable and meanings remain unresolved.
Hands caught mid-motion, obscured portraits, tactile surfaces and displaced objects recur throughout the work, transforming domestic and ordinary environments into ambiguous spaces suspended between intimacy and distance. Locations connected to the artist’s life — including the house she grew up in and landscapes surrounding Évora — are reconfigured through photography’s ability to alter atmosphere and perception.
Flash illumination sharpens textures and details while simultaneously unsettling the scenes it reveals. Plastic coverings, visual obstructions and fragmented gestures interrupt recognition, creating images that feel both immediate and strangely detached, as though illuminated by an unfamiliar source.
The book unfolds as a meditation on seeing, memory and photographic mediation, where the visible world becomes slightly alien to itself. Photography acts less as documentation than as an interpretive force, shaping a fragile relationship between reality, imagination and emotional proximity.
