The photographs in this book were taken on the outskirts of a small Italian town, in a neighborhood built when people left the countryside to move to the city in search of work. The place feels like a strange overlapping of rural and urban cultures, a territory suspended between two worlds.

It is a work about photography as a tool for investigating the past, in which familiar visions reveal themselves under a different, unexpected light.

"You plant your roses and you let them grow, you wait, you can't do much to speed up the process. Roses need time, you need time. It is the work of time on the individual and on the space around us that I try to capture, but also our capacity to accept that time cannot be forced."

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
