The work is exactly what the title says: a picture of the artist crying early in the morning on the beach in the Far Rockaways, placed onto the English Wikipedia entry for mood disorder and then used by various websites as free stock material. Horvitz works with artist's publications, performance, watercolour and mail art; earlier projects include A Wikipedia Reader, a mind map of artists browsing the encyclopedia, and Public Access, a set of beach views uploaded to the same site.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
