The first album by the Tyumen photographer Sergey Kiselev, published after his death: in his last year he chose the pictures and worked with a designer on the layout, but did not live to see it printed. Everything here is as he intended, sequence and foreword unchanged despite its light tone. Kiselev considered Dodecaphony the most important book of his life, a serious reckoning with the viewer; documentary work was his calling, paired with a gift for finding the paradoxical in the ordinary. The photographs, taken over some thirty years from the 1990s to the present, shift register from reportage into something closer to a philosophical portrait of the times he lived through.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
