Named after the Borges story, the work traces the artist's origins amid contradictory family narratives. Indigenous to Peru and orphaned as an infant, Krajnak was adopted into a working-class transracial family in American coal country and raised as a twin to her African American brother. The sequence moves between found vernacular pictures, the artist's own writing and photography, and images appropriated from 1979 political magazines collected in Lima. It gathers portraits and oral histories of women born in Lima in the same year as the artist — her "time twins" — and dwells on violence against women, on disappearance and on displacement caused by war.
