The Studio presents the project Dialect by Felipe Romero Beltrán, inviting us to experience time and waiting through gestures and looks.
Between 2020 and 2023, Felipe Romero Beltrán documented the lives of nine young Moroccan men housed in a centre for migrants in Seville. Having entered Spain illegally and awaiting the regularisation of their administrative situation, they are confined to this place of accommodation. During these three years – corresponding to the average duration of the legal process to obtain a residence permit – Beltrán established a relationship of trust with his subjects, telling the story of their daily life.
Dialect mixes different typologies of images, some taken on the spot, others staged and developed in collaboration with the protagonists, who re-enact memories of their crossing. Faced with the violence of the judicial system, of confinement and forced migration, Felipe Romero Beltrán opposes a formal language in which softness and tenderness emerge in each image.
Felipe Romero Beltrán (b. 1992 in Bogotá, Colombia, lives and works in Paris) is recognized for his committed artistic work, exploring migration and identity. His works have been presented in numerous monographic and collective exhibitions internationally.
